The first fully electric Range Rover has arrived as a 2027 model, and Canadian pricing is set: $200,800 to start, in short-wheelbase Autobiography trim only, as Motor Illustrated reported on September 2. Rather than build a separate electric flagship, Land Rover electrified the traditional Range Rover itself — same proportions, same Solihull, England production line shared with the combustion and plug-in hybrid versions, and, the company insists, the same off-road ability.

Powertrain: 542 hp and more torque than any Range Rover before it

  • Two 260-kW permanent-magnet motors (one per axle) produce up to 542 horsepower and 627 lb-ft of torque — more torque than any Range Rover offered to date.
  • 0-100 km/h in 4.5 seconds; the 80-120 km/h passing sprint takes 2.7 seconds.
  • Silicon carbide semiconductors in the inverters improve switching speeds and energy efficiency.

Battery and charging: 118.5 kWh, 800 volts, Tesla Supercharger access

The double-stacked lithium-ion pack carries 118.5 kWh of usable capacity across 344 prismatic cells on an 800-volt architecture. EPA-estimated range is 535 km. DC fast charging peaks at 350 kW — a 10-to-80 percent session takes about 22 minutes, and a 10-minute stop can add roughly 200 km of driving. Critically for Canadian buyers, the North American version carries a native NACS charging port, giving it plug-and-charge access to the Tesla Supercharger network without an adapter.

Cold-weather performance gets specific engineering attention. The ThermAssist thermal management system is claimed to cut heating energy consumption by 40 percent and contribute up to 40 km of additional range — a meaningful number for a Canadian winter, where large cabin volumes and resistive heating eat into real-world range.

Still a Range Rover off-road

Electrification has not softened the flagship's brief. The Intelligent Driveline Dynamics system varies rear torque distribution from 0 to 100 percent, and Integrated Traction Management adjusts motor speed in 50 milliseconds — up to 100 times faster than a comparable combustion-linked system, per Range Rover. The Electric pulls away on gradients up to 33 degrees, handles rolling climbs to 45 degrees, and wades through 900 mm of water. Development covered more than 1.4 million kilometres including -40°C testing in Sweden, with over 300 patent applications filed.

What it means for Canadian buyers

At $200,800 the Range Rover Electric sits far above the mainstream Canadian EV market — but its spec sheet previews what's moving downstream: 800-volt charging speeds are already reaching sub-$60,000 models, and native NACS ports are becoming the North American standard. For buyers cross-shopping six-figure electric SUVs, the Range Rover's pitch is the same as the Mercedes electric G-Class's — heritage capability, electric silence — and the open question, as Motor Illustrated notes, is whether Range Rover succeeds where Mercedes has struggled.
