chargingMercedes-AMG GT SUV Unveiled: 1,153 HP, 710 kW Charging, No Canadian Price Yet
Mercedes-AMG's first in-house electric SUV delivers up to 860 kW (1,153 hp), 0–100 km/h in 2.7 seconds, and 10–80% charge in 12 minutes on the AMG.EA platform. Three variants, Canadian pricing TBA.
Mercedes-AMG has unveiled its first in-house-developed full-size electric SUV, and the spec sheet puts it among the most powerful electric SUVs on the planet. The Mercedes-AMG GT SUV delivers up to 860 kW (1,153 hp), accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 2.7 seconds, and supports DC fast charging at up to 710 kW — fast enough to add roughly 450 kilometres of WLTP range in 10 minutes under ideal conditions.
Built on the dedicated AMG.EA electric platform, the GT SUV follows the AMG GT 4-Door Coupé as the second production vehicle on the architecture. Both use axial flux motors (on the GT 63 and GT 55) and battery technology developed specifically for high-performance applications.
Three power levels, two battery sizes
- GT 63 (flagship): Three electric motors, 860 kW (1,153 hp), 2,000 Nm torque
- GT 55: 600 kW (805 hp)
- GT 53 (entry): Dual-motor setup, 400 kW (537 hp) — uses simulated six-cylinder sound with virtual gear changes
Mercedes-AMG offers two battery capacities: 106 kWh and 128 kWh. The larger pack enables the 710 kW peak charging rate; all variants use 800-volt architecture. The company says 10–80% takes as little as 12 minutes on a capable charger. WLTP range reaches up to 700 kilometres on the larger battery.
Active suspension, rear-wheel steering, and ChatGPT inside
The GT SUV debuts a new active suspension system and rear-wheel steering for agility at any speed. Inside, a 14-inch central touchscreen pairs with a 10.2-inch instrument cluster and an optional passenger display. The infotainment integrates ChatGPT, Google Gemini, and Microsoft Bing for voice interaction.
Production takes place in Sindelfingen, Germany. European orders for the GT 53 open October 20 at €113,050 (approximately C$179,840) in Germany, with first Swiss deliveries expected February 2027. The GT 63 and GT 55 follow in spring 2027.
Canadian pricing and availability: not yet announced
Mercedes-Benz Canada has not released pricing, trim availability, or a launch timeline for the Canadian market. For context, the 2027 Mercedes-Benz GLC 400 4MATIC Electric — a smaller, less powerful SUV on a different platform — opened Canadian configurator orders last week at $78,400 starting MSRP ($84,491 with fees). The AMG GT SUV sits well above that tier.
With 710 kW charging capability, the GT SUV also exceeds the current 500 kW ceiling of Tesla's newly announced V4 Supercharger cabinets and the 350 kW typical of most Canadian public DC fast chargers (BC Hydro's newest 400 kW units at Abbotsford are the current domestic leaders). The charging infrastructure to exploit the GT SUV's full speed simply doesn't exist in Canada yet.
