Polestar 4 Coupe Opens Canadian Orders at $67,700 — Now Built in Korea, Outside the China Tariff Quota

Polestar opened Canadian orders for the updated Polestar 4 coupe on September 9 at $67,700 including destination for the rear-motor version and $72,700 dual-motor. Busan, South Korea assembly keeps it outside Canada's Chinese-built EV quota — and Canada is the only North American market that will sell it.

Polestar 4 Coupe Opens Canadian Orders at $67,700 — Now Built in Korea, Outside the China Tariff Quota

Polestar opened Canadian orders on Wednesday for the updated, renamed Polestar 4 coupe — from $67,700 including a $2,800 destination charge for the rear-motor version, or $72,700 for the dual-motor — with a re-tuned chassis and a lower manufacturing carbon footprint.

The pricing is a hold rather than a cut: the outgoing Polestar 4 started at about $64,900 before destination, which Polestar now folds into the headline number, industry outlet EV reports. The headline figure converts to roughly US$49,100.

Built in Korea — outside both the quota and the US ban

The updated coupe is built at Renault Korea's Busan plant, which places it outside Canada's 49,000-vehicle annual quota on Chinese-built EVs — and outside the U.S. rules that end Polestar's American new-car sales after the 2026 model year. Canada is now the only North American market where the updated car will be sold. Polestar 4 deliveries in Canada and the U.S. only began in December 2025, so the updated version reaches Canadian buyers roughly nine months after the first vehicles did.

"Customers will find the upgraded Polestar 4 coupe better than ever, with a more refined ride, greater driving pleasure, and improved sustainability credentials," CEO Michael Lohscheller said in the announcement, adding that the car "now delivers even greater value without compromise."

What changed for 2027

  • Chassis: recalibrated with high-capacity passive dampers, new spring and anti-roll-bar specifications, and polyurethane rebound stops replacing internal rebound coil springs — Polestar says the result is a more controlled ride and sharper steering.
  • Performance: the dual-motor keeps its 3.8-second 0-100 km/h time, the quickest in Polestar's range.
  • Trims: the structure is now Rear motor, Dual motor, and Dual motor with Performance Pack — distinguished by seat-belt colour: black, black with a Swedish gold stripe, and full gold.
  • Carbon footprint: Polestar puts the cradle-to-gate figure at 20.7 tonnes CO2-equivalent for the dual-motor and 19.8 for the rear-motor — the lowest of any Polestar.

The "coupe" suffix, adopted in Europe over the summer when the same chassis update arrived there, separates the car from the new Polestar 4 SUV — the conventionally roofed variant with a real rear window that Polestar launched September 2. The SUV is in production at Busan with first deliveries due in the fourth quarter, but Polestar has not announced Canadian pricing or timing for it.

Where the 4 coupe sits in Polestar's Canadian lineup

Canada's three-model Polestar lineup now draws on three countries. The Polestar 2 comes from Taizhou, China under the 6.1 per cent quota tariff, with the first reintroduced imports arriving this month and more than 1,000 planned; the Polestar 3 is built in Ridgeville, South Carolina and listed at $108,150 for the 2027 dual-motor after a 2026 increase reflecting Canada's counter-tariff on American-built vehicles; and the 4 comes from Busan under Canada's free-trade agreement with South Korea. The coupe sits close to the Chinese-built Polestar 2, reintroduced to Canada June 3 at $69,900 for the long-range dual-motor.

None of the three qualifies for Ottawa's $5,000 federal rebate, whose price cap sits near $50,000 — so the $5,000 "EV bonus" advertised on Polestar's Canadian leases is the company's own incentive, not public money.

Parent-company context matters for anyone ordering: Polestar reported a first-half retail record of 30,423 cars on September 3, but also a net loss of $842 million and full-year volume guidance cut to low-to-mid single-digit growth, with cash of $888 million at June 30.
