Lucid Recalls 128 Air Sedans in Canada Over Fire Risk — Fix Arrives Over the Air
Transport Canada filings show 128 Lucid Air sedans from 2022–2026 are included in a fire-risk recall covering 27,313 vehicles overall, with 100% of the fleet estimated affected. The fix is a software update Lucid already pushed in July — but until it installs, owners are told to park outside.
Lucid has issued an over-the-air recall for more than 27,000 Air sedans in Canada and the United States over an electrical fault that can overheat exterior lighting circuits and potentially start a fire. Filings with Transport Canada and the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) show the Canadian population is small — 128 Air sedans — alongside 27,185 units in the U.S., spanning the 2022 through 2026 model years.
Unlike most recalls, where regulators estimate only a fraction of the identified vehicles actually carry the defect, Lucid estimates that 100% of the recalled vehicles are affected.
What the defect is
The problem sits in the software controlling the Air's low-voltage exterior lighting circuits. Lucid says the software may provide insufficient overcurrent protection, allowing a circuit to remain energized at excessive amperage. That can overheat components, potentially producing smoke or fire. The same fault can also knock out exterior lighting — including the centre high-mounted brake light and front lighting — creating an additional crash risk.
No service visit needed
The fix requires no trip to a service centre. Lucid released software update 2.10.0 in July, which lowers the eFuse protection threshold and stops a faulted circuit from being repeatedly re-energized during the same key cycle. At the time of the NHTSA filing, 20,719 of the affected vehicles had already installed version 2.10.0 or newer, leaving 6,466 still awaiting the update.
Until the software lands, owners are advised to park outside and away from structures.
Three fires, four smoke reports
Lucid's investigation traces back to a June 2023 fire involving a company-owned 2023 Air. The automaker ultimately identified three fire incidents involving front lighting over a three-year period, along with four reports of smoke between October 2025 and April 2026 tied to overheating of the centre brake light circuit, and 33 warranty reports involving related wiring harness damage.
Canadian Air owners can check the Transport Canada recall database for recall 2026-404 to confirm whether their VIN is included.
