BYD Great Han Launches October 13 With 1,000+ km Range — Could It Come to Canada?

BYD has set an October 13 launch date for its new Great Han electric sedan (known as Da Han in China), a massive flagship that will offer more than 1,000 km (621 miles) of driving range on China’s CLTC testing cycle. The sedan positions above the existing Han in BYD’s Dynasty lineup and signals the kind of high-end EV the automaker could bring to Canada as it expands westward.

Pre-sales opened at the Chengdu Auto Show in August with three configurations priced between 249,900 and 299,900 yuan (approximately C$50,700 to C$60,900):

All three use BYD’s latest Blade Battery and Flash Charging technology. One report indicates the system can charge from 10% to 70% in five minutes when connected to equipment capable of delivering up to 1,500 kW.

The Great Han is also physically large: 5,256 mm long with a 3,130 mm wheelbase, stretching beyond both the Tesla Model S and Lucid Air. Standard equipment includes dual-chamber air suspension, rear-wheel steering, zero-gravity front seats, and BYD’s LiDAR-equipped God’s Eye B driver-assistance system.

Canadian context: BYD is coming, but this model isn’t confirmed

There is no indication yet that the Great Han will be sold in Canada. However, BYD is actively expanding into the Canadian market:

• Website launch: BYD Canada’s website went live in 2026, confirming market entry intent
• Dealership plans: Industry consultants reported BYD targeting up to 20 Canadian dealerships, starting in Toronto before expanding to Vancouver, Montreal, and Calgary
• Tariff environment: The federal government lowered tariffs on a quota of Chinese-built EVs to 6.1% (initial annual quota of 49,000 vehicles, rising to ~70,000 by 2030)

If BYD enters Canada as planned, the Great Han demonstrates the calibre of flagship the company could eventually bring — a Model S/Lucid Air rival with Blade Battery durability, 5-minute flash charging, and a sub-C$61,000 price point in China.

For Canadian buyers watching the Chinese EV wave approach, the Great Han is a data point: BYD’s technology ceiling is higher than what early market entries (Seal, Atto 3) suggest.
