Jeep Grand Wagoneer EREV and Ram 1500 REV Delayed Again — Supplier Memos Show 2027 Slips

Stellantis' two most important electrified launches for North American truck and SUV buyers are slipping again. According to Automotive News, citing people familiar with memos sent to parts suppliers, the Jeep Grand Wagoneer EREV is now expected to launch in November 2026 and the Ram 1500 REV electric pickup won't start production until spring 2027 — delays of roughly six and nine months respectively.

At issue, according to the report, is a desire to iron out every wrinkle in the new range-extender powertrain before the vehicles reach customers. Driving.ca, which reported the supplier memos, notes the change "should not be a total surprise" given how closely the launches are being watched.

How the EREV powertrain works

The extended-range electric vehicles — EREV stands for "Extended-Range Electric Vehicle" — combine electric motors driven by a 400-volt battery with a 3.6-litre Pentastar V6 employed purely as a generator:

• Electric drive: the wheels are always turned by electric motors, so the driving experience is EV-like with near-instant torque.
• Gas generator: the V6 never directly powers the wheels — it produces electricity, letting drivers refuel at any gas station instead of waiting at a charger.
• Charging optional: Level 3 fast-charging is still available, but range rivals a conventional vehicle rather than a pure EV.

Why Stellantis is being careful

The company recently discontinued its Jeep 4xe plug-in hybrids, with some critics suggesting the models were "recalled out of existence" after reliability troubles. For Stellantis, the EREVs are simultaneously a clean break from that problematic tech and a risk: any early defect in a completely new powertrain would land in the middle of the large-SUV and half-ton-truck segments where Canadian buyers tow, haul and road-trip — duty cycles where pure battery EVs still struggle.

The delays also land at a delicate moment for the automaker, which is unwinding battery investments on both sides of the border even as it doubles down on electrified trucks. For Canadian buyers waiting on an electric pickup with no range anxiety, the message from the supplier memos is to keep waiting: the Ram 1500 REV is now a mid-April 2027 proposition at the earliest.
