Tesla Launches FSD Referral Program — But Canada Is Left Out Again

Tesla owners in the U.S. can now earn free months of FSD by referring friends, with up to 12 rewards per year. Canada is excluded with no timeline, mirroring the FSD gift card launch that also skipped North America's northern neighbor.

Tesla Launches FSD Referral Program — But Canada Is Left Out Again

Tesla has launched a new Full Self-Driving (FSD) referral program that lets owners earn free months of FSD by referring friends and family. The announcement came via a post from the Tesla North America account on X, but the program is available only in the United States — Canada is excluded, with no stated timeline for inclusion.

How it works

The program operates through Tesla's existing referral system. An owner shares a referral link, and the referred person gets a free month of FSD. If that person converts to a paid FSD subscription before the trial expires, the referring owner earns a reward:

  • Subscription owners: one free month of FSD per successful referral
  • Outright FSD owners: US$99 in Tesla Credits per successful referral

There's a cap of 12 referrals per calendar year, meaning a single owner could theoretically earn a full year of free FSD. The referred person must not have subscribed to FSD in the previous 12 months to qualify for the trial.

What this means for Canada

For the second time, a Tesla FSD-related product has launched in the U.S. without a Canadian option. When Tesla introduced FSD gift cards earlier this year, those were also U.S.-only. The pattern suggests FSD's commercial ecosystem — subscriptions, referrals, gifting — is being rolled out on a U.S.-first basis, with Canadian availability deferred indefinitely.

Canadian owners who want to participate would need a U.S. Tesla account and a U.S. billing address, which most don't have. Tesla has not commented on whether or when the referral program will expand to Canada, and the FSD subscription itself remains a relatively new offering in the Canadian market.
