teslaTesla Powershare Now Available on Every New Vehicle in the U.S. — But Still Not in Canada
Tesla North America announced every new Tesla can now power external devices via Powershare, available in the U.S. and Mexico. Canada remains excluded with no timeline, despite Model 3 and Model Y being briefly advertised with V2L capability.
Tesla has announced that every new vehicle can now power external devices through Powershare, per a post from the official Tesla North America account on X (October 27, 2026). The feature allows owners to use their vehicle's battery to power tools, gadgets, and other electrical equipment through the charging port.
What's available where
In a follow-up post, Tesla clarified that Powershare is currently available in the United States and Mexico using the Mobile Connector and Outlet Adapter. The announcement builds on Tesla's October 6 expansion of Powershare and V2L (Vehicle-to-Load) functionality to Model 3 and Model Y in the U.S.
- U.S. / Puerto Rico — Model 3 and Model Y ordered after October 1, 2026 are Powershare-capable, along with all Cybertruck trims
- Mexico — Powershare available (per Tesla's clarification)
- Canada — Not available; no timeline announced
The Canada gap
Despite the announcement coming from the North America account, Canada does not yet have any Model 3 or Model Y with Vehicle-to-Load capability. Both vehicles were previously advertised — albeit briefly — as having the feature in Canadian marketing, raising expectations for a domestic rollout.
Tesla Energy also highlighted that Powershare can function as a portable battery: "In the US, it can also power your home with Powerwall 3." This whole-home backup capability is particularly relevant for Canadian winters, where ice storms have repeatedly cut power to hundreds of thousands of customers.
Why the delay?
Tesla has been silent on when V2L might arrive for the Model 3 and Model Y in Canada. It does not appear to be a regulatory issue — the Cybertruck and several other non-Tesla EVs already have V2L capability in Canada. The hold-up remains unexplained, and Canadian owners are left waiting without a timeline.
