Polestar 2 Production Ends at the Ghent Plant; Canadian Drivers Wait for the 2027 Successor

Polestar 2 Production Ends at the Ghent Plant; Canadian Drivers Wait for the 2027 Successor

Polestar has confirmed that production of the Polestar 2 has ended at the company's Ghent, Belgium manufacturing plant, with a successor model planned for 2027. The Polestar 2 — the brand's volume model and its best-selling car in Canada — will no longer be built, according to reporting from Le Guide de l'auto and Polestar's own communications.

What ended and what continues

  • Production stop: The final Polestar 2s rolled off the line at Ghent during the 2026 model-year wind-down. Existing unsold inventory at Canadian dealers will be cleared at the current (heavily discounted) pricing.
  • Canadian operations continue: Polestar's Canadian division continues to operate — sales, service, and parts support all remain in place for existing owners.
  • Successor timing: A replacement for the Polestar 2 is planned for 2027, though Polestar has not yet confirmed specs, pricing, or a Canadian launch date.

Why it matters for Canadian owners

The Polestar 2 was a cornerstone of the brand's Canadian lineup. For current owners, the production end does not change warranty, service, or over-the-air software support — but it does mean the car's used-car supply will tighten over time, which historically supports resale value. For buyers, the wind-out is the best pricing window the brand has offered: Polestar has already cut Canadian prices by $15,000 in this cycle, and remaining inventory will likely clear further.

What the 2027 successor is expected to bring

Based on Polestar's platform roadmap, the successor is expected to move to the next-generation architecture that underpins the Polestar 3, with larger battery options, faster charging, and the updated in-car software stack. Canadian buyers should expect the 2027 model to slot in at or below the Polestar 4's current starting price, keeping pressure on rivals like the Hyundai IONIQ 5 and the Tesla Model 3.

Until the successor lands, the Polestar 2 remains a strong value pick in Canada — just available now only as leftover inventory.
