Ivy Charging Expands ONroute Network with New Stations and Upgrades Across Ontario
Ivy Charging Network is adding two new ONroute fast-charging locations in Newcastle and Ingersoll, plus upgrading three existing stations in eastern Ontario with next-generation chargers by Q1 2027.
Ivy Charging Network, the Hydro One–owned operator of Ontario's ONroute highway charging program, has announced two new fast-charging stations and upgrades to three existing locations. Construction is underway at ONroute Newcastle and ONroute Ingersoll, with both expected to open by early Q1 2027, according to Ivy's Network Updates page.
What's coming to the new sites
Each new ONroute location will feature three high-speed DC fast-charging units, allowing up to six electric vehicles to charge simultaneously. Both sites will support tap-to-pay, eliminating the need for a proprietary app or membership to start a session.
- Two new stations — ONroute Newcastle and ONroute Ingersoll, both on the 401 corridor
- Three units per site — up to six EVs charging at once
- Tap payment — contactless payment without a dedicated app
- Target opening — early Q1 2027
Upgrades to existing eastern Ontario stations
Alongside the new builds, Ivy is preparing to upgrade three existing ONroute locations in Bainsville, Ingleside, and Morrisburg. Construction on those upgrades is expected to begin soon, with completion also targeted for Q1 2027. The refresh will introduce next-generation fast chargers designed to increase charging capacity, improve reliability, and support compatibility with a wider range of EV models.
Building on last year's overhaul
The expansion follows a larger upgrade program Ivy completed in late 2025, which replaced charging equipment at 11 ONroute service centres across Ontario — including King City, Innisfil, Cambridge, Trenton, Port Hope, Mallorytown, Odessa, and Napanee. Those upgrades increased capacity from four to six charging ports at each site and introduced dual-port chargers with dynamic power sharing, along with CCS, NACS/Tesla, and CHAdeMO connectors.
Ivy, which has operated since 2019, now maintains more than 270 fast and destination charging points across the province. The company has also rolled out a new Help Centre, live chat assistance through its Zoe virtual assistant, and self-service troubleshooting resources to support drivers.
For Ontario drivers planning a road trip on the 401, the Newcastle and Ingersoll additions will close two of the longer gaps between existing ONroute stops in the western and central sections of the highway.
