Hyundai Canada Posts Best-Ever August — Tucson Leads as Genesis Rides the GV90 Reveal

Hyundai Auto Canada has posted its best August on record, with the Hyundai and Genesis brands combining for 13,704 vehicle sales in August 2026 — an all-time August high for both brands in Canada, according to the company's Sept. 1 press release from its Markham, Ontario headquarters.

The numbers behind the record

Hyundai's own brand delivered 12,934 vehicles in August, led by the Tucson compact SUV, which set an all-time August sales record with 4,265 units. The results reflect what the company describes as continued strong consumer demand across gas, hybrid, plug-in hybrid and battery-electric lineups — a multi-powertrain strategy that lets Canadian buyers stay with the same brand as they electrify.

"With our lineup of gas, hybrid, plug-in hybrid and electric vehicles, we're focused on delivering the quality, innovation and choice Canadian consumers need and expect."

The GV90 halo — and the EV question

The month's defining milestone for the luxury brand was the global unveiling of the Genesis GV90, the brand's new flagship electric SUV, featuring pillar-less coach doors, rotating seats and a full lounge interior. Genesis says the reveal generated strong interest from media and consumers, and the brand positions itself as one of Canada's fastest-growing luxury automakers heading into the fall.

For EV watchers, the August table tells a more nuanced story: Hyundai's volume engine remains the Tucson and Kona families that span multiple powertrains, while the dedicated electric lineup — Kona Electric, IONIQ 5, IONIQ 6, IONIQ 9 — competes in a Canadian market where the federal incentive landscape remains in flux. The record suggests the multi-powertrain showroom, not EV-only retailing, is what is moving Canadian metal at scale right now — even as the GV90 gives the brand an electric flagship to aim its premium ambitions at.
