Ford Recalls 3,221 Vehicles in Canada Over Engine Piston Defect

Ford is recalling 3,221 vehicles in Canada because engine pistons may crack and cause sudden loss of power while driving. The affected models are the 2026 Bronco, Bronco Sport, Explorer, Mustang and Ranger equipped with either the 1.5-litre EcoBoost or the 2.3-litre EcoBoost engine, and the defect traces to pistons that may not have been manufactured to specification.

What the defect looks like

According to INsauga, which first reported the Canadian details, the improperly manufactured pistons can crack under stress. A fractured piston can lead to sudden engine failure and an immediate loss of power to the wheels — a dangerous condition if it happens at speed or in heavy traffic. Owners who notice rough running, warning lights, or a sudden drop in performance should stop driving and contact a Ford dealer immediately.
