Chevy Bolt and Equinox EV Top Canada's EVAP Rebate Claims in August 2026

Chevrolet swept the top two spots in Canada's Electric Vehicle Affordability Program in August 2026. The Chevy Bolt claimed 1,911 EVAP rebates and the Chevy Equinox EV claimed 1,212, according to data compiled by GM Authority. Together they accounted for more than a third of all EVAP-funded transactions in the month and put the Bowtie brand well ahead of every rival.

The August results flip the script from earlier in the year. Toyota had led the EVAP table through June on the strength of the bZ compact crossover, but Chevrolet's two most-affordable EVs — both priced under or near the $50,000 transaction cap — moved in volume that no Toyota model could match. The Ford Mustang Mach-E recorded 938 claims, the Toyota bZ 846 and the Tesla Model Y just 754.

Why the Equinox EV qualifies despite its sticker price

The Equinox EV starts at C$46,898 in front-wheel-drive form and C$50,398 with all-wheel drive. That sounds like it breaches the EVAP rule requiring a final transaction price below C$50,000, but dealerships are applying their own discounts to push AWD examples under the threshold. GM Authority notes that a handful of Chevy Blazer EV units also qualified, meaning buyers likely received substantial dealer discounts on that model as well.

Both the Bolt and Equinox EV are built in countries that hold free-trade agreements with Canada — the Bolt at GM's Fairfax plant in Kansas and the Equinox EV at the Ramos Arizpe plant in Mexico — so they clear the origin requirement. China-built vehicles remain excluded entirely.

Cumulative EVAP numbers since launch

Since EVAP launched on February 16, 2026, the program has funded:

• 5,669 Chevy Bolt units
• 6,351 Chevy Equinox EV units
• 250 Chevy Blazer EV units (from C$56,398)
• 24 Cadillac Optiq units (from C$58,098)
• 3 Cadillac Lyriq units (from C$71,098)

The program runs until March 31, 2031, or earlier if funding runs out. EVAP was allocated C$2.275 billion, and as of September 1 roughly C$2 billion remained. At current burn rates there is no immediate risk of the 2025-style exhaustion that froze EV rebates for months.

Chevrolet's dominance is less about brand loyalty than about product-market fit — the Bolt and Equinox EV land inside the price cap, qualify for the full incentive and are available at most GM dealerships across the country.
