batteryNIO Hits 130 Million Battery Swaps in Just 88 Days From Its 120-Million Mark
NIO completed its 130th million battery swap on November 3, averaging over 110,000 swaps per day. The milestone comes 88 days after the 120-million mark, with 4,000+ swap stations now operational in China.
NIO has crossed a major infrastructure milestone, completing its 130,000,000th battery swap at 18:53 on November 3, 2026 (UTC+8), according to founder and CEO William Li. The milestone came just 88 days after the company reached 120 million swaps on August 7, 2026 — a rate of more than 110,000 swaps per day sustained over the period.
The pace keeps accelerating
NIO reached its 100-millionth swap on February 6, 2026. That means the company completed another 30 million swaps in roughly nine months. The acceleration is visible in the daily averages: the 100-to-120-million stretch took about six months, while the 120-to-130-million stretch took barely three.
The company's swap network now spans over 4,000 Power Swap Stations across China. NIO launched its 4,000th station in Quanzhou, Fujian province, in August 2026, alongside its first fifth-generation swap stations. The same announcement integrated the Firefly brand — NIO's budget sub-brand — into the swap network, meaning Firefly owners can now use the same stations as premium NIO vehicles.
Record holiday numbers
The National Day holiday period (October 1–7) saw 4,168 stations complete 1,192,221 swaps in a single week, with a single-day high of 183,664 swaps on October 5. That holiday surge accounts for roughly 1% of the 10-million-swap gap NIO closed in the 88-day window.
What this means for the broader EV market
- Swap vs. charge debate: At 110,000+ daily swaps, NIO's model handles roughly 15–20% of China's daily EV charging demand in a single brand ecosystem, validating the battery-swap business case at scale.
- Standardization pressure: NIO has announced plans for 1,000 new, faster swap stations ahead of its budget-vehicle launches. Geely's 30% stake in NIO Power (announced earlier this year) signals that swap infrastructure is becoming a shared utility rather than a single-brand moat.
- Canadian relevance: NIO operates in Norway and several European markets but has no Canadian presence. The 130-million milestone reinforces that swap infrastructure economics only work in dense urban markets — a constraint that would make Canadian deployment prohibitively expensive outside Toronto and Vancouver cores.
