BMW Passes 2 Million EVs Delivered — and the iX3 That's Headed to Canada Is a Big Reason Why

BMW Group has handed over its two-millionth fully electric vehicle, more than a decade after the original i3 went on sale in late 2013. The milestone car was an i5 M60 xDrive built at the Dingolfing factory in Germany and delivered to a customer in Spain — but the growth engine behind the number is the Neue Klasse platform, and its first Canadian-bound product arrives this fall.

The scale is bigger than the battery-electric count alone: roughly 3.5 million electrified vehicles delivered worldwide when plug-in hybrids are included, and in the first half of 2026 more than one in every four vehicles BMW sold globally was electrified.

BMW board member Jochen Goller said Europe's positive sales development has continued since the iX3 market launch, with the model approaching 100,000 new orders — evidence, in BMW's words, of "the tremendous importance of the Neue Klasse" to the EV ramp-up. Nearly one-third of BMW's EV orders in Europe have been for the iX3 since its debut.
