2027 Toyota RAV4 Plug-in Hybrid Gets NACS Port and DC Fast Charging

Toyota has confirmed the 2027 RAV4 Plug-in Hybrid will come standard with a North American Charging Standard (NACS) port and DC fast charging on all four PHEV trims, a first for the RAV4 plug-in line. The addition unlocks access to Tesla's Supercharger network without an adapter, a major convenience upgrade for Canadian drivers who rely on the Supercharger network for long-distance travel.

The announcement covers the U.S. market; Toyota Canada has not yet confirmed Canadian pricing or specifications for the 2027 model year.

What's new in the 2027 RAV4 PHEV

  • NACS port standard on all trims — no separate adapter needed for Tesla Superchargers
  • Upgraded 11 kW onboard AC charger — faster home charging than the current 6.6 kW unit
  • DC fast charging confirmed — maximum charging speed not yet disclosed
  • Charging port relocated to the driver's side for easier access at charging stations

Electric range by trim

The 2027 RAV4 PHEV uses Toyota's sixth-generation plug-in hybrid system, pairing a 2.5-litre four-cylinder engine with electric motors for 321 horsepower and standard all-wheel drive. Electric-only range varies by trim:

Trim EV Range
SE84 km (52 mi)
XSE80 km (50 mi)
Woodland74 km (46 mi)
GR SPORT72 km (45 mi)

The Woodland trim also receives revised suspension components and increased ground clearance, now measuring approximately 231 mm (9.1 inches) compared to 206 mm (8.1 inches) previously.

Pricing and timing

U.S. pricing starts at US$42,100 for the RAV4 PHEV SE, excluding destination charges. The regular hybrid RAV4 starts at US$32,300. Toyota says hybrid models will reach U.S. dealerships later this year, with the Plug-in Hybrid lineup following in early 2027. Canadian buyers should watch for a Toyota Canada announcement that confirms local pricing, which will typically include the EVAP rebate eligibility for eligible trims.
