Polestar Raises Canadian EV Bonus to C$15,000 as Monthly Payments Hold Steady
Polestar has increased its Canadian EV incentive to C$15,000 while keeping monthly lease payments flat, a move that narrows the gap with Tesla and Hyundai in the premium EV segment.
Polestar has raised its Canadian EV purchase incentive to C$15,000, according to reporting from Electric Vehicles.com on November 6. The manufacturer is holding monthly lease payments steady at the same time, effectively giving buyers a larger upfront discount without increasing their recurring cost of ownership.
What the bonus covers
The C$15,000 incentive applies to select Polestar models available in the Canadian market. Because the bonus is a manufacturer-funded incentive rather than a government rebate, it stacks on top of any provincial or federal EV purchase credits a buyer may qualify for. For context, Ottawa's federal iZEV rebate caps at $5,000 for eligible vehicles priced under roughly $50,000, meaning a Polestar 2 buyer could see a combined discount approaching C$20,000 in the right configuration.
Why now
The move comes as Polestar navigates a shifting competitive landscape. With Tesla's Supercharger network expanding across Canada and Chinese-made EVs entering the market under the 49,000-unit annual quota, Polestar is under pressure to defend its premium-EV share. Holding monthly payments constant while inflating the upfront bonus is a classic tactic to attract cash buyers without cannibalising the lease pipeline.
- Upfront incentive: C$15,000 off the sticker price on qualifying trims.
- Lease pricing: Monthly payments unchanged from the prior pricing cycle.
- Stacking potential: Buyers who also qualify for the C$5,000 federal iZEV rebate can combine both incentives.
What it means for Canadian buyers
For shoppers weighing a Polestar 2 or Polestar 3 against a Tesla Model Y or Hyundai Ioniq 5, the widened bonus narrows the effective price gap considerably. It also signals that Polestar is prioritising Canadian market share over short-term margin — a strategy that mirrors its earlier C$15,000 price cut announced in September when the brand confirmed its U.S. exit for 2027.
