Tesla Adds Night Shift at Giga Texas, Boosting Model Y and Cybercab Production Through 2026

Tesla Adds Night Shift at Giga Texas, Boosting Model Y and Cybercab Production Through 2026

Tesla has added a second, overnight production shift at its Giga Texas facility, running two 12-hour shifts through at least the end of 2026. Longtime drone observer Joe Tegtmeyer, who regularly documents the factory's output, confirmed the change on X on November 2, noting the additional shift adds capacity without extending the General Assembly schedule beyond its current Monday-to-Friday cadence.

What the night shift changes

The expansion directly increases the number of vehicles rolling off the line each week. Giga Texas is the sole production site for the Cybertruck and is also the primary build site for the six-seat Model Y L, which launched in the U.S. in July 2025 and began deliveries in September.

  • Model Y / Model Y L: The largest volume output at Giga Texas. Canadian buyers currently receive Model Y units from Giga Berlin, but the Texas plant's output feeds global allocation pools and could ease supply pressure.
  • Cybercab: Production is being throttled by Robotaxi fleet absorption rates rather than factory capacity, so the extra shift may have limited near-term impact on Cybercab output until demand ramps.
  • Cybertruck: The only U.S.-built Tesla sold in Canada continues to be produced here, subject to Canada's automotive counter-tariff regime.

Canadian supply chain implications

Canada's Model Y supply is sourced exclusively from Giga Berlin, meaning the Texas night shift does not directly shorten Canadian Model Y wait times in the near term. However, increased global production capacity can ease allocation pressure as Tesla distributes units across markets. The Model Y L, currently unavailable in Canada, may see earlier Canadian availability if Giga Texas ramp-out accelerates.

Tesla has not publicly confirmed the shift beyond Tegtmeyer's drone footage and X post, but the observer has a consistent track record of accurately reporting Giga Texas production changes.
