Tesla Installs First Pre-Assembled Megachargers for Semi

Tesla Charging has put its first pre-assembled Megachargers into service, marking a shift from on-site assembly to factory-built charging units for the Semi. The new stations use Tesla’s V4 power hardware and arrive largely complete, which the company says reduces the construction and electrical trenching normally required for megawatt-scale sites.

What the hardware delivers

Each pre-assembled unit pairs one V4 cabinet with two charging posts. Every post can output up to 1.2 megawatts, enough to add significant range to a Class 8 truck during a scheduled break. Tesla says the Semi can recover up to 60 percent of its battery in 30 minutes at that rate.

Two variants for different sites

Tesla’s charging lead Max de Zegher said the company built long and short versions of the pre-assembled unit so operators can minimize conductor length and trenching between the charger and a site’s switchgear or transformer. Less underground electrical work should lower installation costs and help new Megacharger locations come online faster.

De Zegher highlighted the speed of the program, noting that the design moved from an initial sketch to physical units craned onto a site in under three months. That pace matters for fleet operators who need charging infrastructure to match their delivery schedules rather than lag behind them.

Where the first units are

Tesla did not name the exact location of the debut installation. Based on the accompanying photos, the units appear to be in California or Texas — the two states that currently host the only public Megachargers in North America — rather than Florida, where permit filings first revealed the pre-assembled concept in June.

European expansion underway

The modular approach is also feeding Tesla’s planned rollout in Europe. The company recently disclosed plans for more than 100 Megacharger stalls across Germany, France, the United Kingdom, Sweden, the Netherlands, Belgium and additional markets to support Semi operations overseas.

For Canadian fleet and logistics observers, the pre-assembled Megacharger design signals that Tesla is treating heavy-duty charging as a deployable product rather than a custom engineering project. If the concept adapts to Canadian electrical codes and winter construction timelines, it could accelerate the sparse long-haul charging network that currently limits electric truck adoption outside major corridors.
