Cybertruck Powershare Finally Works With Powerwall 3 — What It Means for Canadian Homes

Tesla has started rolling out the software that lets the Cybertruck integrate with its home battery, turning the truck and a Powerwall 3 into one larger backup system during a grid outage — a release Cybertruck Lead Engineer Wes Morrill confirmed on Wednesday, according to Drive Tesla Canada. The feature had been delayed repeatedly, with Tesla telling owners as recently as December 2025 that it would arrive by mid-2026.

The initial release works only with Powerwall 3. Tesla says support for owners with Powerwall 2 is coming later this year. Notably, Tesla's Canadian Powershare page still describes Powerwall compatibility as arriving through a future over-the-air (OTA) update — the website hasn't caught up with the firmware rollout.

What the integration actually does

• 11.5 kW of continuous power to the home through the same Wall Connector normally used to charge the truck.
• More than 3 days of backup based on typical household consumption of around 30 kWh per day — a capacity Tesla compares to nine additional Powerwalls.
• The vehicle and energy teams manage power jointly, so the truck's battery extends the Powerwall's runtime instead of replacing it.
• Requires a Powershare-capable Cybertruck and Powerwall 3 today; Powerwall 2 support is promised later in 2026.

Why this matters in Canada

Multi-day backup is exactly the use case Canadian winters create. Ice storms in Quebec and Ontario have cut power to hundreds of thousands of customers at a time in recent years, and the 2025 Texas-style grid events pushed home resilience up the priority list for buyers nationwide. A single Cybertruck battery holds far more energy than a residential Powerwall — pairing the two turns a parked truck into the biggest backup cell on the property.

The catch, as with every Tesla energy product, is availability and price: Powershare hardware installation and the Cybertruck itself remain premium purchases, and the firmware only began shipping this week. Canadians who already own both a Cybertruck and a Powerwall 3 should watch for the update in their vehicle's software menu rather than waiting for the website to announce it.
