recallsGM Recalls 2026 Chevrolet Traverse and GMC Acadia in Canada Over Faulty Seat-Back Welds
GM is recalling six 2026 Chevrolet Traverse and GMC Acadia SUVs in North America — two of them Canadian-market — over a faulty seat-back recliner weld that could let the seat move or detach in a crash. Transport Canada campaign 2026-512.
General Motors is recalling 2026-model-year Chevrolet Traverse and GMC Acadia crossover SUVs over a front-seat defect that could increase the risk of injury in a collision. The campaign covers six vehicles in North America — three Traverse and three Acadia — with two of them Canadian-market examples.
What the defect is
On the affected vehicles, the hinge where the seat-back recliner pivot mechanism meets the driver or front-passenger seat frame may have been welded incorrectly. That can allow the seat-back to move or fully detach from the rest of the seat in a crash, posing an increased injury risk. On three of the six vehicles the bad weld is on the driver's seat; on the other three it's on the passenger seat.
The fix and the details
- Vehicles: 2026 Chevrolet Traverse and 2026 GMC Acadia, six total in North America (two in Canada)
- Defect: incorrect weld at the seat-back recliner pivot hinge
- Remedy: technician replaces the seat-back on the affected side at a Chevrolet-GMC dealership, free of charge
- Transport Canada campaign: 2026-512 (GM internal code N262576830)
Owners will be notified by mail. The small count — six vehicles across both brands and both markets — makes this a spot fix rather than a broad campaign, but it's a reminder that seat-assembly weld quality is a safety-critical detail: a detached seat-back in a collision is a serious injury scenario, which is why Transport Canada is tracking it as a formal safety recall rather than a courtesy campaign.
