teslaTesla Roadster to Perform Stunts Autonomously with Texas Test Track Tease
Elon Musk says the next-generation Tesla Roadster will be able to perform its stunts without a driver and a wild looping track is planned at Tesla headquarters in Texas.
Tesla’s next-generation Roadster could perform its most extreme maneuvers without anyone behind the wheel. CEO Elon Musk said owners will be able to command the car to perform its stunts autonomously.
The comments came two days after Tesla’s October 15 unveiling at SpaceX’s McGregor, Texas facility. At the event Tesla showed the Roadster driving upside down with a fan suction system, briefly flying with SpaceX-developed cold-gas thrusters, and accelerating from 0-60 mph in about 0.8 seconds.
Autonomous tricks and a Hot Wheels-style track
Musk responded to technology commentator Robert Scoble on X, saying the Roadster’s computer-controlled systems will allow it to perform its tricks without direct driver input. He wrote: “You will be able to ask the Roadster to perform any of the tricks shown autonomously, as it will be sentient.”
Musk also teased a dedicated facility. He added: “Also, we will have a wild looping track (crazier even than Hot Wheels) at our Texas HQ where you can test out your Roadster.”
The Roadster features steer-by-wire, brake-by-wire and throttle-by-wire systems, alongside a sophisticated array of fans and thrusters. Production is still targeting 2028, nearly nine years after the car was first announced in 2017.
Canada context
Tesla has confirmed the most extreme Rocket configuration will not be approved for public roads. Canadian buyers interested in the Roadster can follow updates through Tesla Canada. Reservations reopened in Canada earlier this year.
