teslaMusk Denies Optimus Orders Will Go Live in December
Elon Musk shot down reports that Tesla Optimus reservations would open in early December. The original rumour tied the launch to the Humanoids Summit on Dec 1-2, where Tesla will demo Optimus V3.
Elon Musk denied on X that Tesla's Optimus humanoid robot reservations would open in early December, shooting down a rumour that had tied the launch to the upcoming Humanoids Summit on December 1-2. The original report came from Modar Alaoui, an investor at ALM Ventures, who told The Standard that Tesla — a key partner for the conference — planned to demo Optimus V3 and open reservations shortly thereafter.
What Musk said
When asked on X whether consumers could order an Optimus in December, the Tesla CEO's response was a single word: "No." That was the entirety of the comment, posted October 30, 2026.
Where Optimus actually stands
- Commercial first: Tesla's focus is on commercial applications — warehouses, factories, and packing and sorting facilities. Consumer units may follow once the commercial side is shipping to companies.
- Known issues: On the October earnings call, Musk acknowledged that Optimus still has open problems in AI, runtime, and electromechanical design. He confirmed the goal is to resolve these by the end of 2027 for external company deliveries.
- No price announced: Tesla has not released a price for Optimus, and it is unclear how many units will be available for eventual consumer purchase.
- Humanoids Summit Dec 1-2: Tesla is a key partner and will demo Optimus V3 at the event. The rumour was that reservations would follow the demo, but Musk's denial suggests the timeline is not yet firm.
What this means for Canadian buyers
For Canadian consumers, the denial is a reality check: Optimus is not a product you can pre-order. The V3 demo at the Humanoids Summit will be the next concrete signal on the hardware's maturity. If the commercial deployment timeline (end of 2027 for external deliveries) holds, consumer availability — if it comes at all — would be a 2028 story at the earliest, and only after Tesla has proven the robot in industrial settings.
The broader implication for the Canadian EV and robotics market: Tesla's humanoid roadmap is still in the engineering phase, not the sales phase. Anyone marketing "Optimus pre-orders" before a confirmed opening should be treated with suspicion.
