teslaTesla FSD Crosses 17 Billion Miles Driven — What It Means for Canadian Drivers
Tesla's Full Self-Driving (Supervised) system has passed 17 billion cumulative miles, adding 7 billion in just six months. Here's what the milestone means for Canadian Tesla owners and the road ahead.
Tesla's Full Self-Driving (Supervised) system has crossed a major threshold: more than 17 billion cumulative miles driven by the fleet, according to the company's official FSD Vehicle Safety Report. The milestone was reached on Monday, just six months after the system passed 10 billion miles in early May.
The numbers behind the milestone
As of November 2, the FSD (Supervised) fleet had accumulated over 17,000,000,000 miles — roughly 27.4 billion kilometres — including approximately 6.76 billion miles (10.88 billion km) driven on city streets. That represents an additional 7 billion miles (11.27 billion km) since May 3, 2026.
The pace of accumulation has accelerated sharply. FSD mileage climbed from 12 billion in July to 14 billion in August and 15 billion by late September. In the most recent stretch — between September 29 and November 2 — the fleet added approximately 2 billion miles, an average of 1,000 FSD miles every 1.8 seconds, or roughly 18.2 billion miles per year.
| Milestone | Date | Cumulative Miles |
|---|---|---|
| 10 billion | May 3, 2026 | 10,000,000,000 |
| 11 billion | June 9, 2026 | 11,000,000,000 |
| 12 billion | July 17, 2026 | 12,000,000,000 |
| 13 billion | August 3, 2026 | 13,000,000,000 |
| 14 billion | August 27, 2026 | 14,000,000,000 |
| 15 billion | September 29, 2026 | 15,000,000,000 |
| 16.7 billion | October 26, 2026 | 16,700,000,000 |
| 17 billion | November 2, 2026 | 17,000,000,000 |
What it means for Canadian Tesla owners
- FSD (Supervised) is available in Canada, alongside the United States, Mexico, Australia, New Zealand, South Korea, and ten European markets. Canadian owners can activate the feature on supported vehicles today.
- The system still requires full driver supervision. Despite the name, FSD (Supervised) requires the driver to remain attentive with hands on or near the wheel at all times. It is a driver-assistance system, not a self-driving one.
- More data means faster iterations. With roughly 2 billion miles added in just over a month, Tesla is processing an enormous volume of real-world driving data, which feeds directly into model improvements and safety refinements.
Canadian context
Canada's FSD rollout has been gradual compared to the U.S. The system is available in all provinces but adoption has been slower, partly due to winter driving conditions that present unique challenges — snow-covered lane markings, reduced visibility, and varying road surfaces. Tesla has noted that Canadian winter driving data is critical for training the system on low-traction and low-visibility scenarios.
The 17-billion-mile milestone underscores the scale of Tesla's fleet-learning advantage. As the system accumulates more Canadian driving data — including heavy winter conditions — Canadian owners can expect continued improvements in how FSD handles snow, ice, and mixed-weather driving.
