Design assets for Tesla Optimus Gen 3 discovered in the Android app show enclosed joints, a unified torso and redesigned legs, suggesting the next-generation humanoid robot is close to unveiling.
Design assets for Tesla’s next-generation Optimus humanoid robot have appeared inside the Android version of Tesla’s mobile app. Files labelled “gen3” were extracted from the app APK and include renders comparing Optimus Gen 2.5 and Gen 3 side by side.
What’s changed
The Gen 3 renders show fully enclosed joints replacing exposed actuators, a more unified torso shell for a smoother appearance, thicker forearms with slimmer wrists suggesting tendon-driven finger control relocated into the forearms, and more tapered calves with feet resembling integrated boots.
The assets reportedly began appearing in Android builds around August 27, 2026, with higher-resolution versions emerging around September 5.
Timeline
Tesla originally planned a Q1 2026 unveiling, then pushed to mid-2026 to avoid giving competitors a preview. The appearance of Gen 3 assets in the company’s app, combined with recent supplier audits in China for mass production, suggests a public reveal could be approaching even if Tesla is not yet ready to show a physical unit.
