Lucid Delays Gravity Phone as a Key Again — Now Targeting Q1 2027

Lucid Gravity owners will have to wait longer to unlock and start their SUVs with a smartphone. The automaker has pushed the Phone as a Key feature to Q1 2027 — the second delay after a previous Q3 2026 target came and went on September 30.

Third timeline in a year

Key fob problems since December 2024

The delay is especially frustrating because Gravity owners have dealt with key fob reliability issues since deliveries began in late December 2024. Reports of "Key Not Detected" warnings are common, and Lucid has released at least eight software and firmware updates aimed at improving fob performance.

The Lucid Air already offers Mobile Key, making the Gravity's absence more conspicuous.

Workaround: Remote Start in the app

Gravity owners aren't completely stuck with the fob. Lucid added Remote Start to its mobile app in March 2026, allowing the vehicle to be unlocked and driven without a physical key. The catch: owners must open the app and activate the feature each time — it's not the passive, proximity-based experience Phone as a Key promises.

Apple Wallet key still undated

Apple named Lucid as a future Apple Wallet car key partner in 2025, and references to Lucid appeared in iOS 27 beta code in July 2026. Neither Apple nor Lucid has provided a launch date.

What this means for Canadian Gravity buyers

Lucid's Canadian deliveries are still ramping up. For the small but growing number of Canadian Gravity owners, the Phone as a Key delay means continued reliance on a fob with known reliability issues — or the manual Remote Start workaround. The Q1 2027 timeline (end of March) gives Lucid two more quarters to solve the engineering challenges.

Until then, Canadian Gravity buyers should factor in the fob experience when evaluating the vehicle — and keep the Lucid app handy.
