Bentley Ditches 2030 All-Electric Target and Pushes to 2035, Debuts Torcal

Bentley has decided to rethink the all-electric roadmap it announced in 2020 and scrapped its plan to go all-electric by 2030.

According to the CEO, the change stems from market conditions, including declining demand for luxury EVs and shifting regulations in the automaker's key jurisdictions.

New Beyond100+ Strategy

The refreshed Beyond100+ Strategy will now see the company target a full electric portfolio by 2035. The portfolio will keep plug-in hybrids on sale alongside EVs, including the newly launched Torcal, and shift output toward whatever powertrain customers are ordering.

The Torcal, with its 113-kWh battery and 800-volt architecture, should be the cornerstone of Bentley's electric line-up for years to come. With a 600 km range and the ability to charge from 10% to 80% in 16 minutes, the Torcal and Torcal S both look to be high-performance luxury SUVs that pack a punch.

The Torcal S is capable of 0-60 mph in as little as 2.8 seconds. The vehicle is a 2028 model and will go on sale next year in the United States and Europe.

Why now?

The move reflects broader hesitation among luxury brands about full electrification timelines. Bentley's previous 2030 all-electric target was among the most aggressive in the premium segment.

Keeping plug-in hybrids in the mix allows Bentley to maintain offerings for markets with limited charging infrastructure while continuing to develop its electric portfolio.
