teslaTesla Expands Vehicle-to-Load Capability to Model 3 and Additional Model Y Trims
Tesla adds Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) functionality to Model 3 vehicles in select markets and expands availability to more Model Y trims, allowing owners to power devices from their vehicle's battery.
Tesla is expanding its Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) capability to more vehicles, beginning with Model 3 vehicles in China, Australia, and New Zealand, while also making the feature available to additional Model Y trims in select markets.
What is Vehicle-to-Load (V2L)?
Vehicle-to-Load technology allows Tesla owners to use their vehicle’s battery pack to power external devices and appliances, effectively turning the car into a mobile power source. This is particularly useful for:
- Powering tools at job sites or camping locations
- Running appliances during power outages
- Charging other electric vehicles or devices
- Operating outdoor equipment like refrigerators or heaters

- Increased vehicle utility beyond transportation
- Emergency power capability during outages

- Potential cost savings compared to dedicated power solutions
Tesla continues to explore additional markets and vehicle models for V2L expansion, with owner feedback playing a key role in prioritizing future releases.
